Uzbek tomatoes with a particularly dangerous virus were found in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 8, 2026 13:15 Society A quarantine object was discovered in a batch of imported tomatoes in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the press service of the regional testing laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZh". At the end of April, specialists conducted an examination of tomatoes from a batch weighing 20 tons, which was delivered to the region from Uzbekistan. It turned out that the virus of brown fruit wrinkling was present inside. This pathogen belongs to the category of particularly dangerous ones and is subject to strict control due to its rapid spread and the threat of significant crop losses. The results of the examination have been forwarded to the territorial office of the Rosselkhoznadzor. Now the batch of tomatoes must be returned to the supplier or destroyed.
