13 southern airports are closed until May 12: how this will affect the residents of Nizhny Novgorod

      May 8, 2026 14:11 Society Work The operation of 13 airports has been suspended due to a drone entering the administrative building of the "Aeronavigation of Southern Russia" branch in Rostov-on-Don. According to preliminary information, the restrictions will last until May 12, but the deadline may be shortened. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

      The measures affected air harbors in Astrakhan, Vladikavkaz, Volgograd, Gelendzhik, Grozny, Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Magas, Mineralnye Vody, Nalchik, Sochi, Stavropol, and Elista. Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin instructed to use trains and buses to transport passengers of canceled flights.

      According to the schedule published on the Chkalov Airport website, flights from Nizhny Novgorod can only be made directly to three locations from the list: Sochi, Mineralnye Vody, and Makhachkala. Flights to the last city are only on Wednesdays, to the second city on Mondays and Wednesdays, and to the first city daily.

      Currently, there is no information on the "Chkalov" website about the cancellation of flights to southern Russia, but the flight to Mineralnye Vody scheduled for today has been delayed from 14:20 to 21:00. The flight to Sochi has been rescheduled from 17:15 to 23:25. At the same time, at 13:58 on May 8, Rosaviatsiya informed about the introduction of temporary restrictions on the acceptance and departure of aircraft due to the threat of a drone attack.
