      May 7, 2026 16:47 Society Two veterans of the Great Patriotic War have departed from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow to participate in the Victory Parade on Red Square as honored guests. Frontline soldiers Vasily Kuritsyn and Vazgen Oganesyan have been invited to the celebrations.

      According to the regional Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy, this trip has been the second for both veterans. They first attended the Victory Parade last year.

      Vasily Kuritsyn is 102 years old, although his documents state he is 100. He was born in the Ardatovsky district of the Gorky region and worked on a collective farm after finishing seven grades. In the autumn of 1943, he was drafted into the army and underwent training at a sergeant school in Murom. From July 1944, he served in the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Along with his platoon, he passed through Hungary, Romania, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He met Victory in the Czech town of Pelhrimov.

      After the war, the veteran tied his life to the Gorodetsky district. He has lived with his wife for 73 years, and their family has raised two children, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Vasily Kuritsyn has made a significant contribution to the cultural development of the district and continues to participate in public life.

      "For me, participating in the Victory Parade is a special event. Last year, I was there for the first time and still cherish those memories. I really want to feel that atmosphere again, to see the scale of the celebration in the capital," the veteran shared.

      Vazgen Oganesyan has turned 100 years old. He was born in Armenia and worked in agriculture during the war while the men were at the front. In 1944, he was drafted into the army. He served in a sapper company and then in the border troops. In September 1945, he was demobilized due to illness.

      After the war, Vazgen Oganesyan worked as a drilling master and driver, with a total work experience of 50 years. He raised five children and has 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In 1998, the frontline soldier moved from Armenia to Nizhny Novgorod to live with his daughter.

      The veteran admitted that participating in the Victory Parade is a great honor for him. According to him, while waiting for the trip, he was very nervous and hardly slept at night.

      During their stay in Moscow, a cultural program has been prepared for the Nizhny Novgorod veterans. They will take a tour of the Moscow River, attend a festive concert at the National Center "Russia," and visit the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
