The poacher will be prosecuted for the murder of a moose in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On May 4, 2026, at 13:40, Incidents: Police detained a poacher accused of the illegal shooting of a moose in the Koverninsky district. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. A hunting inspector from the Ministry of Natural Resources discovered the remains of a wild animal in a forest area near the village of Yazviny, which at first glance resembled a moose. According to preliminary information, the shooting of the individual was carried out illegally. Law enforcement officials identified the hunter, who turned out to be a previously unconvicted local resident. The 66-year-old man provided testimony and fully admitted his guilt. During a search of his home, fragments of the killed moose were found and seized, as well as five units of firearms and ammunition. At the same time, the accused had documents for the storage and carrying of weapons. A criminal case has been initiated under part 1 of article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal hunting causing significant damage). The court has chosen a measure of restraint for the hunter in the form of an obligation to appear, and he faces imprisonment for up to two years.
