"The Seagull" defeated "Loko" and narrowed the gap in the semifinal series.
Nizhny Novgorod's "Chaika" has once again postponed its flight from the Kharlamov Cup. In Yaroslavl, the team played its fifth match (6+) of the semifinals against "Loko" and, having no room for error, secured its second consecutive victory.
There were no goals scored in the first twenty minutes.
But in the second period, the guests made a serious claim for success, scoring two goals in quick succession. Timur Mukhanov and Sergey Skvortsov both scored, with each forward also providing assists on each other's goals.
Towards the end of the second period, the hosts capitalized on a power play and made the score 1:2.
At the beginning of the third period, Sergey Skvortsov completed a double, once again increasing Nizhny Novgorod's lead to two goals - 1:3.
And with 6.5 minutes left before the final siren, Skvortsov completed a hat trick. Timur Mukhanov again recorded an assist.
In the closing moments of the match, "Chaika" was left short-handed, and "Loko" took advantage of the numerical superiority, scoring another goal against Marat Sabitov in the final seconds. The final score was 2:4.
After this match, the series score remains in favor of "Loko" - 3:2.
"We won due to our crazy character. The guys know what they are fighting for. The most dangerous beast is the one cornered. Therefore, there was nowhere to retreat, the guys did everything they could," noted head coach Alexey Podalinsky after the match.
