      On May 1, 2026, at 15:37, Politics: Fedor Shchukin, a native of the Nizhny Novgorod region, is vying for the position of head of Dagestan. His candidacy has already been supported by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, reports TASS.

      At yesterday's meeting with representatives of Dagestan, the head of state stated that Sergey Melikov is completing his term as the head of the republic and is moving on to another job. The Chairman of the People's Assembly of Dagestan, Zaur Askenderov, proposed to Putin to consider the candidacy of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, Fedor Shchukin. The proposed candidacy was supported.

      "He is an honest, consistent, and decent person. And, without a doubt, in addressing current and prospective issues, he will act in the interests of the people," noted the President of Russia.

      The decision on who will lead Dagestan after Melikov will be made by Vladimir Putin. When exactly this will happen is not reported. However, Melikov's term in this position expires only in September.

      Reference: Fedor Shchukin was born in the village of Pochinki in 1976. Since 2004, he has worked in the judicial system of the Nizhny Novgorod region. He has held the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Dagestan since February 2024.
