Almost every third child from migrant families failed the Russian language testing, which is necessary for enrollment in schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Since April 1, 2025, when the testing became mandatory, 393 children have gone through it, of which 144 did not pass. These figures were announced at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly during the "Government Hour" dedicated to migration policy.
Those who failed the test were offered to attend additional classes. Currently, there are 70 Russian language courses open in the region for this purpose.
Minister of Demography and Human Capital Development Igor Pantyukhin noted that the Nizhny Novgorod region remains attractive to labor migrants from neighboring countries. Most often, they are employed in construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. To help newcomers adapt more quickly, the authorities support non-profit organizations with grants, organize outreach lectures directly at enterprises, and distribute informational materials. In the first three months of 2026, 240 foreigners received such assistance.
Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Evgeny Lyulin added that migration policy requires not only control but also a humane approach to integration. As an example, he cited the extension of the resettlement program for compatriots until 2028 and the expansion of support measures - from monetary payments to vocational training.
"It is important that the people coming to us respect our laws, traditions, and culture. To this end, we are launching new projects, such as the 'Code of Friendship' for foreign students, which will help them better understand the Nizhny Novgorod region," said the speaker of the regional parliament.
