Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about fraudulent schemes related to messages from the traffic police.
April 30, 2026 19:19 Society Modern scammers, using the latest technologies, employ sophisticated schemes of deception based on traffic violation themes. They know that messages from law enforcement agencies, particularly from the traffic police, rarely go unnoticed. People open such letters out of curiosity or to confirm the absence of violations. Unaware of the fraud, they provide their personal data to the criminals. Information security expert and director of the IT company "IT-Reserve" Pavel Myasoedov told 360.ru that criminals are increasingly using neural networks to analyze the situation and develop action strategies. Previously, they studied the information background themselves, but now AI performs this task for them, providing recommendations based on formulated queries. Notifications of fines for traffic violations come in the form of push notifications and are increasingly less common via SMS. Pavel Myasoedov emphasizes that users cannot always distinguish notifications from regular messages. When they see information related to their lives, they tend to believe in its authenticity, without considering where it comes from and how trustworthy it is. Criminals exploit this vulnerability. They can send messages from a fake number or through a messenger. People, without checking the source of the information, click on phishing links, enter their data on fake websites that look official, and become victims of fraud. To protect themselves from such attacks, Pavel Myasoedov recommends installing quality antivirus programs that not only combat viruses but also prevent the opening of phishing links and inform the user about potential threats. Additionally, the expert advises being attentive to the sources of newsletters and keeping up with news about new fraudulent schemes in the media. Knowledge of existing threats helps to be more informed and, therefore, more protected. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
