More than 129 thousand preschoolers are registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      April 29, 2026 14:40 Society In 2025, the preschool education system in the Nizhny Novgorod region was attended by 129.6 thousand children. This was reported by the press service of Nizhny Novgorod Statistics. The majority of students—87.1%—attended kindergartens in cities, while 12.9% attended preschool institutions in rural areas. The main part of preschoolers consisted of children aged three and older—81.6%: 34% were children aged three to five years, and 39.5% were five years and older. The fewest toddlers were in groups for children under one year—0.02%, as well as those under three years—18.5%. Another 7.9% of children were engaged in mixed-age groups. The predominant part of students attended general developmental groups—87%. In combined groups, 5.2% of children participated, and in compensatory groups—4.5%. The share of children with disabilities among preschoolers was 1.7%. In total, the region had 148.6 thousand places in kindergartens. "For every 100 places in organizations, there were an average of 87 students in the region, including 89 in urban settlements and 75 in rural areas," noted Nizhny Novgorod Statistics. There were 15 thousand educators working with the children. 57.8% of the staff had higher education, and 41.2% had secondary vocational education. The system employed 11.2 thousand educators, about a thousand music directors, 796 speech therapists, 697 senior educators, 480 physical education instructors, 452 educational psychologists, 249 defectologists, and other specialists. The kindergartens in the region had 16.3 thousand computers, of which 21.9% were available for use by children in the educational process.
