Vasily Sukhanov: "Nizhny Novgorod region has become a leader in road construction and repair."

The Chairman of the Committee for Urban Development, Property and Land Relations of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Vasily Sukhanov, commented on the appointment of Leonid Samukhin as the Minister of Transport and Highways of the region.

      "In recent years, the Nizhny Novgorod Region has become an absolute leader in road construction and repair. For seven consecutive years, the region has ranked first in terms of work volume within the national project. More than 6,600 km of roads have been repaired, and about 140 km of regional highways have been built and reconstructed. In 2025, the plan for bringing roads to regulatory condition was exceeded by 135 km," he emphasized.

      Sukhanov noted that the development of the road network directly affects the quality of life of residents.

      "I would particularly like to point out that every second kilometer of new roads provides access to social facilities—hospitals, schools, kindergartens. This is the merit of the previous Minister of Transport of the region, Pavel Savateev, and his team," the committee chairman noted.

      At the same time, he emphasized that there is significant potential for further work. According to him, in a number of rural areas, especially in the northern districts of the region, the problem of broken access roads persists, and in certain areas, the level of accidents remains high. He stated the need to continue equipping roads with lighting, barrier fences, and modern pedestrian crossings. He also mentioned that mechanisms of public-private partnerships and infrastructure budget loans should be applied more actively to accelerate the pace of construction. He expressed confidence that the new Minister of Transport, Leonid Samukhin, will face serious and ambitious tasks.

      "I wish him firmness, professionalism, and the ability to listen to people. I am sure that the joint work of the deputies, the government, and the new head of the transport block will make the roads of the Nizhny Novgorod Region not only convenient but also truly safe," concluded Vasily Sukhanov.
