Nizhny Novgorod doctors were awarded for their work in the special military operation zone.

On the eve of Victory Day, medical workers in the Nizhny Novgorod region were awarded for their assistance to participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO). The ceremony took place on April 28 at the Museum of the History of the SMO and the feats of its participants. Awards from the Central Committee of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of Russia were given to 11 specialists. Nine of them received medals "For Assistance to the Front" — among the awardees were ambulance drivers, nurses, laboratory technicians, and other industry employees. Two more doctors — ophthalmologist Pyotr Nikiforov from City Clinical Hospital No. 13 and head of the vascular surgery department at the B.A. Korolev Research Institute of Surgery and Cardiology Sergey Naumov — were awarded medals "For Selflessness and Professionalism."

The ceremony was attended by Leonid Fedjantsev, director of the Medical Inspection Center, Vadim Ryzhakov, head of Clinic No. 2 of the Federal Customs Service in Nizhny Novgorod, and Vasily Prikaznov, chairman of the regional trade union of healthcare workers. Fedjantsev noted that Nizhny Novgorod medics "once again proved their loyalty to the profession and love for the Fatherland," emphasizing that their work is a contribution to the country's security.

According to Prikaznov, the awards were given to specialists who worked in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), saved lives on the front lines, and participated in organizing humanitarian aid for military personnel. The chief physician of City Clinical Hospital No. 29, Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation Yulia Garevskaya, noted that for the region's medics, working in conditions of increased risk is not new. According to her, the selflessness of specialists was vividly demonstrated both during the pandemic and during the SMO: some save lives in dangerous conditions, while others coordinate large-scale humanitarian support.
