Almost 12 million rubles were recovered from those responsible for the death of a child at the Kstovo sports complex.

      On April 28, 2026, at 13:27, Incidents: Compensation for moral damages in the amount of 11.8 million rubles was recovered from those convicted for the death of a five-year-old boy at the "Volzhsky Bereg" sports and health complex in the Kstovo district. The claims of the victims were partially satisfied, reported the press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      Recall that the tragedy occurred in October 2023. The child, left unattended by the instructor, drowned in the deep part of the pool during training. The court established that the former director of the sports complex and his deputy organized swimming classes for preschool and younger school-age children without coordinating the service agreement with the founder. They involved an individual entrepreneur in the work, and additionally, the defendants imposed a ban on parents' presence during the classes.

      The individual entrepreneur involved a friend who did not have additional professional education in the field of physical culture. Moreover, the woman was not officially employed. The management of the sports institution was informed that the staff, lacking the necessary qualifications, would be responsible for the wards.

      Criminal cases have been initiated under part 2 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, resulting in death through negligence), as well as under part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (exceeding official powers, committed with causing serious consequences by a group of persons by prior agreement out of personal interest).

      The coach fully admitted her guilt and expressed remorse for her actions. The court sentenced her to 3.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony, with the execution of the sentence postponed until her child reaches the age of 14. The deputy director of the sports complex partially admitted guilt and received a suspended sentence of 4.5 years with a ban on holding positions in public service for two years.

      The head of the complex did not admit guilt and was sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a general regime colony with a similar restriction on work in the public sector. The individual entrepreneur was sentenced to four years in a general regime colony with a two-year ban on engaging in activities related to the education and health of children. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
