This opinion was expressed by Tatiana Vinogradova, a professor at the UNESCO department of NNGASU, local historian, and honorary citizen of Nizhny Novgorod, during the presentation of the event plan for the 130th anniversary of the 16th All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition. This was reported by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."

      She reminded that the arch was built for the arrival of Nicholas II at the exhibition. It marked the emperor's path.

      "Nicholas II did not travel to the city the way we would now. He immediately, when he left the royal pavilion, turned right away. That’s why the arch ended up on this street," she said.

      In Vinogradova's opinion, recreating the arch on the modern Soviet street does not correspond to historical logic and the current layout of the area.

      "The arch is a memory. It should not function on our modern street. This is not the right street and not the right idea," she noted, adding that in the 1st of May Park, the arch could become a symbol of remembrance of the exhibition.

      "It gave the impression of a stone castle, but in reality, it was wood, a frame, everything was done very quickly," the professor emphasized.

      Let us remind you that the remnants of the historical Triumphal Arch were discovered in 2024 during earthworks on Soviet Street. After that, a decision was made to restore it.

      In the summer of 2025, a contract was signed with JSC "TSNRU." The contractor is to not only restore the arch but also create an exhibition space in the area of houses No. 20 and No. 22 on Soviet Street.

      The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. A total of 314.8 million rubles has been allocated for the project.
