The State Power Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region approved the early resignation of Alexander Paramonov.

He submitted his application for the resignation of his mandate on April 22. The issue was considered without discussions, and now the draft resolution will be presented at a parliamentary meeting, reports "Kommersant-Volga."

      Recall that Paramonov, who previously headed the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of RANEPA, was detained on March 12, 2025. He is accused of receiving money for the illegal enrollment of applicants in the college, awarding positive grades, and issuing diplomas without actual training. The total amount of bribes, according to the investigation, exceeded 1.5 million rubles.

      The case also includes an episode involving the employment of an employee at the university as a specialist. The investigation believes that he actually worked as a personal driver for Paramonov's wife. The damage to the educational institution was assessed at more than 3.2 million rubles.

      At the end of March, the materials were sent to the Nizhny Novgorod District Court. Paramonov admitted guilt in receiving bribes and abusing his powers and entered into a pre-trial agreement with the prosecutor's office.

      Earlier, Deputy Dmitry Kolivanov of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region also resigned early. In February, the court sentenced him to 4.5 years in a penal colony for fraud.
