Nikitin: "Nizhny Novgorod region remembers the liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster"

This year marks the 40th anniversary of one of the largest technological disasters in human history—the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. "Nizhny Novgorod region will always remember the feat of the Gorky liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident. They, at the cost of their health and lives, helped protect millions of people from a terrible threat. None of them thought at that moment about their own well-being or the possible consequences. All of them—engineers, military personnel, scientists—heroically fulfilled their duty," emphasized the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, secretary of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the United Russia party, Gleb Nikitin. The regional head reminded that immediately after the explosion at the fourth power unit, specialists and equipment were sent from the Gorky region to the emergency zone. The residents of Nizhny Novgorod worked in the most dangerous areas, engaged in decontaminating territories, and assisted the victims. The governor also noted that the contribution of the Gorky residents was not limited to work directly in the accident zone. Evacuated residents of Chernobyl and neighboring areas, as well as the liquidators themselves, underwent treatment and rehabilitation in the sanatoriums and health resorts of the region.
