A quarter of appointments with doctors are lost due to those who do not show up.
Future medical professionals discussed with deputies why young specialists do not strive to enter the workforce after university. On April 24, at the Privolzhsky Research Medical University (PIMU) during the Parliamentary Day of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, students, young doctors, representatives of the Youth Parliament, and experts examined the real problems faced by district hospitals and clinics today. Participants worked in a business game format. Each team received a description of a life situation as a task - the mass departure of doctors from district hospitals, long queues for narrow specialists, professional burnout among young doctors, and mechanisms for working off after university. The task was to propose ready-made solutions that could be implemented right now. During the discussion of queues and the availability of medical assistance, students noted that up to 40% of the time doctors spend on paperwork, and 25% of appointments are made by those who do not show up. Students suggested improving digital appointment services, implementing call centers in the registration office, and actively using reminders for patients. Emotional burnout was also discussed separately at the meeting: more than half of young doctors admit that they want to leave the profession within the first two years. Participants believe that collective agreements should establish a gentle working regime for newcomers, introduce monitoring of stress levels, and ensure access to psychological support. "Together with the students, we analyzed each problem and tried to find solutions for it. The Youth Parliament will gather all ideas and formalize them in the form of a roadmap. So that no proposal remains just on paper, with the support of our senior colleagues, the deputies, we will work together to form specific legislative initiatives," emphasized the chairman of the Youth Parliament of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Vladimir Moskalenko. "Parliamentary Day is a real search for solutions for the healthcare system of the region. Our task was not just to discuss and ponder the reasons, but to formulate practical steps that will help retain graduates in the profession - especially in rural areas, improve the mechanisms for working off targeted training, and reduce the loss of working time for doctors," said Svetlana Nemirova, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Activities at PIMU. "Today, I was once again convinced that modern students think like real managers. They see where the system fails and propose specific tools because they are deeply immersed in the topic and familiar with the root causes. Thanks to the cooperation agreement signed today, the youth of PIMU will be able to actively participate in the activities of our Youth Parliament. Its legislative initiative right will help turn thoughtful initiatives into real working laws," stated the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin.
