Almost 3000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod are receiving payments after the Chernobyl disaster.

      April 24, 2026 11:39 Society About three thousand residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region, affected by the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, receive support measures through the regional branch of the Social Fund of Russia. The amount of assistance depends on the disability group. People receive a monthly cash payment, an annual compensation for rehabilitation, as well as funds for the harm caused to their health. Support is provided to those who participated in the elimination of the consequences of the disaster, worked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant during that period, were evacuated from the exclusion zone, as well as bone marrow donors for the affected individuals. To apply for the monthly payment, one must submit an application to the branch of the Social Fund of Russia. This can be done through a personal account on the "Gosuslugi" portal, at the fund's client service, or at the MFC. When applying, a special Chernobyl disability certificate is required. Currently, there are 2,965 people in the region who were exposed to radiation and receive monthly payments. Depending on the disability group, the amount ranges from 3,520.01 to 6,157.22 rubles. An annual compensation for rehabilitation is also provided — up to 1,533.42 rubles and a payment for health damage — up to 2,555.70 rubles. Additionally, those who became disabled as a result of the accident are granted an additional paid leave of 14 days per year. Recipients of the monthly payment can also take advantage of a set of social services. This includes medications, vouchers for sanatorium-resort treatment, and reimbursement for travel to and from the treatment location. If desired, one can refuse the set or part of it — for this, an application must be submitted to the branch of the Social Fund of Russia by October 1 of the current year.
