Nizhny Novgorod region is facing a severe shortage of personnel in retail.

April 23, 2026 10:13 Economy The Nizhny Novgorod region continues to face a shortage of personnel in retail. This conclusion was reached by experts from hh.ru based on the results of the first quarter of 2026, analyzing the labor market situation in the retail sector.

In the first three months, the Nizhny Novgorod region ranked among the top three regions in the Volga Federal District in terms of employer activity. They posted more than 4,500 job offers. More vacancies were published only in Tatarstan (5,100) and Samara region (4,600).

At the same time, the industry still experiences a pronounced personnel deficit. The shortage is most acute in line positions — among salespeople and cashiers. On average, in the Volga Federal District, there are 3.3 active resumes for one vacancy in retail, with a norm of 4 to 8. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the figure is even lower — 2.9 resumes.

Employers in the region are increasingly detailing their requirements for candidates. Job postings specify skills related to operational activities and sales: product display (5% of ads), active and direct sales, customer service and consulting (4% each), cash register operation and conducting cash transactions (3% each).

At the same time, there is a growing demand for developed "soft" skills - the ability to work in a team, communicate, and maintain stress resistance.

The median salary offered to retail specialists in the Nizhny Novgorod region in the first quarter of 2026 was 57,300 rubles. This is above the average level in the Volga Federal District, where the figure reached 52,200 rubles.

Earlier, professions that continue to have stable demand in the Nizhny Novgorod region were named.
