Nizhny Novgorod region has been recognized as ready for the fire hazard season following the inspection.
April 23, 2026 12:02 Society The Nizhny Novgorod region has been recognized as ready for the fire hazard season following a federal inspection by the Department of Forestry for the Volga Federal District, which took place from April 4 to April 22, 2026. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection.
The inspection assessed the equipment of institutions under the ministry with firefighting technology and equipment, communication and alert systems in accordance with the consolidated plan for extinguishing forest fires in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This year, the implementation of preventive measures to prevent the spread of fire from lands of other categories to the forest fund, the quality of fire safety arrangements in forests, and the effectiveness of federal funds allocated for the protection of forest areas were additionally evaluated. The preservation of forests aligns with the goals of the federal project "Forest Conservation" within the national project "Environmental Well-Being."
"Effective firefighting is impossible without clear coordination of all services. Currently, forces and resources are mobilized, action plans are developed, resources are allocated – the forest protection system is operating at maximum readiness. However, success in preserving the region's green wealth depends not only on the work of specialized services. Every resident can contribute to the safety of forests. Be extremely careful in nature: strictly follow the rules of conduct in the forest, never light fires in unauthorized places, and do not leave trash that could become a source of ignition. Only by joining efforts – from the coordinated work of professionals to the awareness of each citizen – can we protect our forests from fire and keep them healthy," emphasized the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Roman Vorobyov.
During the 2026 fire hazard season, 43 forest fire stations will operate in the region. All units are equipped with the necessary technology and equipment. A total of 3,429 people will be involved, including 483 from forest fire formations. More than 1,500 units of equipment will be engaged, including 477 units from forest fire formations. A reserve of firefighting equipment, firefighting technology, fuel and lubricants, and inventory has been created.
To promptly detect fires, the number of cameras in the forests has been increased to 205, and additional drone aviation groups will operate in the region to protect forests from fires based on three long-range drone control complexes. The aviation component of forest protection has been strengthened, and the number of flight hours has been increased to 580.
The Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod region urges all citizens to strictly adhere to fire safety rules, promptly report any instances of fire in the forest and adjacent areas, as well as other violations in the forests, by calling the direct line of forest protection: 8 (800) 100-94-00 and the regional dispatch service of the forestry: 8 (831) 430-01-23. The phones operate around the clock.
Let us remind you that since 2025, in Russia, by the order of President Vladimir Putin, the national project "Environmental Well-Being" has been in effect, which carries out tasks previously outlined in the national project "Ecology." The new national project aims to care for the environment and improve its comfort for human life. The national project includes six federal projects: "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Preservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Conservation," "Closed Loop Economy," "Clean Air."
