The fire safety regime in the Nizhny Novgorod forests will be implemented starting April 24.

April 22, 2026 11:40 Society From April 24, the fire hazard season will begin in the forest fund lands in the south of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and from April 30 - in the north. This became known on April 21 at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly Committee on Ecology and Natural Resources, where preparations for the 2026 fire hazard season were discussed, the press service of the ZSNO reported. According to the hydrometeorological center, a high class of fire danger in the region's forests is forecasted from June to September. The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Roman Vorobyov, reported that all organizational and technical measures have been completed. A consolidated plan for extinguishing forest fires and a calendar plan for fire safety arrangements in the forests have been approved. The total group will consist of 3,429 people and 1,521 units of equipment. 43 forest fire stations are fully prepared for work. Special attention is paid to monitoring. This year, more than 255 ground patrol routes with a total length of 17,000 kilometers will be in operation. Air monitoring will cover two routes with a length of 1,215 kilometers. The forest situation will be monitored by 205 video cameras — 121 are already operational, and another 84 will be installed before the start of the season. To promptly detect fires, 82 drones will be used, including three long-range drones. The update of equipment continues. Five forest fire trucks, four trucks, one cargo-passenger vehicle, and two bulldozers have already been purchased. It is planned to acquire another nine trucks. All 43 forest fire formations have been checked, and 324 employees have undergone training in fire extinguishing tactics. Reserves of equipment, tools, and fuel and lubricants have been created. The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, Yevgeny Lyulin, added that the largest grouping of drones for the forestry sector in the Volga Federal District has been created in the region. "In just a few years, we have created the best drone grouping in the forestry sector in the Volga Federal District. And thanks to video cameras and artificial intelligence that monitors the forest from space, we see the situation in real-time. Funding for forestry has increased significantly, allowing us not only to extinguish fires but also to restore vast areas of forest every year. Forest resources are being replenished, and the industry provides serious tax revenues to the region. This is rational management. At the same time, I believe it is important to further strengthen video monitoring in areas of high fire danger — cameras must be present where the risk is highest," he stated. Earlier, it was reported that an operational headquarters for eliminating emergency situations related to forest and peat fires has been formed in Nizhny Novgorod.
