School VPR will be conducted under new rules: what you need to know

On April 22, 2026, 13:13 Society A week of All-Russian Verification Works (VPR) has started for schoolchildren in Russia. These events are not exams or final assessments, but rather a knowledge check conducted every spring. The results of the VPR are used to evaluate students' academic performance, as well as to analyze the work of teachers and the effectiveness of educational institutions. 360.ru has prepared material on what VPR is, how they are conducted, and how to find out the results.

What is VPR and which grades participate?

All-Russian Verification Works are control works, the tasks for which are developed by specialists from the Federal Institute for Quality Assessment in Education (FIOKO) and the Federal Institute for Pedagogical Measurements under the supervision of Rosobrnadzor. The tasks are the same for all schools in the country and are mandatory for all students. Schools can independently choose the dates for conducting the VPR within the established period. In 2026, the control works are scheduled for the period from April 20 to May 20.

Elementary schools are exempt from conducting VPR. Students in the ninth and eleventh grades, who are preparing for the State Final Exams (OGE) and Unified State Exams (EGE), are also exempt from these works. The results of the VPR help identify problem areas in education and adjust teaching methods.

How is the VPR conducted and how to find out the results?

On the day of the control works, staff at each school receive a unique access code to the tasks. The works themselves do not contain tests. Students write brief or detailed answers to questions depending on the type of task. The use of textbooks, reference books, or gadgets is prohibited, except for simple calculators in exact science classes and atlases in geography.

After the time is up, teachers collect the works and check them according to established criteria. In some cases, independent experts may be involved. For each correct answer, a student receives primary points, which are then converted into a five-point grade. The final results are entered into the information system and sent to FIOKO for analysis.

Students learn the results of the VPR one to two weeks after completing the work. The results are announced through class teachers and also in the "Electronic Diary." Results are also published on the official websites of schools.

Changes in VPR in the 2025–2026 academic year

In the 2025–2026 academic year, the VPR underwent a number of changes. They now consist of a mandatory part (Russian language and mathematics) and an additional part, where students take a test in one or two subjects chosen by Rosobrnadzor. You can find out which subjects will be included in the additional part a week before the event.

For fourth-grade students, the exam time for three subjects (Russian language, mathematics, and the surrounding world) has been reduced to 45 minutes. Literary reading and foreign language have also been removed from the additional part. Starting from the 5th grade, students take two additional subjects, which can be humanitarian or natural sciences.

From the 7th grade, physics and computer science are added to the list of additional subjects, and from the 8th grade—chemistry and social studies. For 10th-grade students, exams are provided in history, social studies, geography, biology, physics, chemistry, and literature. The foreign language knowledge check for high school students has been canceled. All exams last 90 minutes, except for works for fourth graders.

From the current academic year, schoolchildren can choose the format of the VPR: on paper or on a computer. Grades for the VPR will now be entered into journals, although they do not affect promotion to the next grade.

Is it possible to refuse to take the VPR?

It is impossible to refuse to take the VPR, as it is part of the educational process. Students who miss the control work for a valid reason can take it on another day at the school's discretion. Teachers can also decide to conduct the VPR for children who are homeschooled and attached to the school.

Students with disabilities can take the VPR with parental consent. There are no simplified task options for them. Students in closed institutions, such as juvenile colonies, as well as those studying in educational institutions of law enforcement agencies or on the territory of the "Era" technopolis, do not take the VPR.
