The housing and utilities expert Bondar clarified who is facing a fine due to an old gas stove.

April 21, 2026 11:58 Society It is recommended to replace gas stoves every 10-12 years of operation. After this period, the equipment becomes outdated and may pose a danger. Dmitry Bondar, an expert in housing and communal services and a public figure, told 360.ru about this.

When to replace a gas stove

Starting in 2026, stricter rules for the use of gas appliances have been introduced in Russia. Gas stoves must be replaced when their service life expires. This period is specified by the manufacturer in the technical passport or operating instructions and depends on the design of the stove, the quality of materials, and assembly.

The service life of gas stoves usually ranges from 10 to 12 years. After this period, it is recommended to replace the stove, as its operation may be unsafe.

The stove must also be replaced if critical malfunctions are detected or if there is no "gas control" system. This system automatically stops the gas supply if the flame goes out.

Reasons for replacing a gas stove

Dmitry Bondar explained that the requirements for replacing gas stoves are related to the rules established by the manufacturer and government regulations. If the service life of the stove has expired, its use may be prohibited.

The main reason for replacing a gas stove is material wear. Even if the stove looks new, threaded connections may be damaged, which can lead to gas leaks. Buying a new stove is a matter of safety.

The requirements for replacing gas stoves apply to both apartment owners and private homeowners. The responsibility for the maintenance of gas equipment lies with the owner.

Procedure for replacing a gas stove

In Russia, it is prohibited to independently install gas equipment. All work must be carried out by specialists to ensure the safety of residents.

To replace a gas stove, the following steps must be taken:

      - Purchase a certified appliance from a store.

      - Call a technician from the gas service.

The specialist will disconnect the old stove that has reached the end of its service life and connect the new one.

Some stores offer disposal services for old equipment. They can take the stove away, relieving the buyer of the need to dispose of it themselves.

      Requirements for the room

Before installing a new gas stove, it is necessary to ensure that the room meets the requirements for dimensions, ventilation, and the presence of a "gas control" system.

      Main requirements:

      - The kitchen volume must be at least 8 cubic meters for a stove with two burners, 12 cubic meters for a stove with three burners, and 15 cubic meters for a stove with four burners.

      - The exhaust system must be functioning properly to ensure the removal of combustion products and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

      - The presence of a "gas control" system that automatically stops the gas supply when the flame goes out.

If the room does not meet the requirements, gas workers may refuse to connect the new stove. In this case, the specialist may leave a notice listing the deficiencies and seal the valve on the riser. It will be impossible to use the stove until the issues are resolved.

      Possible fines and gas disconnection

Using old gas stoves is subject to administrative liability. According to Article 9.23 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation, the fine can range from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles. In case of repeated violations, the fine may increase to 25,000 rubles.

In addition to the fine, gas workers may disconnect the gas supply until the problem is resolved. Local repairs to the stove, such as replacing a valve, will not solve the problem if the stove is outdated. Repairs can only be carried out within the service life of the appliance.
