The Bogorodsk Water Canal was fined 1.2 million rubles for polluting the Ryazanka.
On April 20, 2026, at 14:14, the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Management of Water and Sewage" of Bogorodsk was ordered to pay over 1.2 million rubles for the damage caused to the Ryazanka River. The decision was made by the Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, satisfying the claim of the regional department of Rosprirodnadzor.
As reported by the agency, an inspection conducted in 2024 revealed that the city's wastewater treatment facilities, operating since 1978, do not provide adequate treatment of wastewater. Samples showed exceedances of permissible pollution levels.
The enterprise also did not have a decision on the provision of the water body for use. Additionally, violations of the rules for the operation of water protection facilities were identified.
Experts calculated the amount of damage, but the water utility did not voluntarily compensate it. As a result, the court sided with the supervisory agency and ordered the full amount to be recovered. The decision has already come into force.
It is worth noting that in February 2025, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to conduct an inspection regarding violations of environmental legislation in Bogorodsk—specifically, the discharge of untreated sewage onto land and into the Ryazanka River.
Earlier, it was reported that the Semenov "Gorvodokanal" was fined for failing to rectify environmental violations.
