A criminal case for negligence has been opened due to a house with a crack in Balakhna.

      On April 17, 2026, at 17:22, Incidents A criminal case has been initiated due to the cracking of a multi-apartment building in Balakhna. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the region.

      On April 17, a huge crack appeared in the wall of the first entrance of building No. 54 on Engels Street, and it was visible from both sides of the building. All residents were promptly evacuated, and there are no injuries.

      An investigator from the Balakhna inter-district department initiated a criminal case under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - "negligence."

      Currently, investigators and criminologists, as well as experts from the Volga branch of the forensic expert center of the Investigative Committee of Russia, are working at the scene. An inspection of the building is being conducted, examinations are being appointed, and witnesses are being interrogated. The investigation is establishing the causes of the incident and the conditions that led to it.

      Also, the Balakhna city prosecutor Alexander Lozhkarev has arrived at the scene. The prosecutor's office is monitoring the rights of residents and overseeing the investigation of the criminal case.

      In addition, the supervisory agency will conduct an inspection of the enforcement of housing legislation and the requirements for the maintenance and repair of the common property of the multi-apartment building.
