A state of emergency has been declared in Balakhna due to the threat of a multi-apartment building collapse.

      On April 17, 2026, at 16:38, a state of emergency was declared in Balakhna due to the threat of the collapse of an apartment building on Engels Street, 54. This was reported by the district administration.

      The building, constructed in 1954, was not recognized as hazardous. It houses 35 residents. The residents were promptly evacuated. They were placed in a temporary accommodation center and provided with hot meals.

      The dangerous area was cordoned off with warning tape. The building was de-energized and disconnected from gas.

      The causes of the destruction are yet to be determined.
