A 29-year-old woman with three heart attacks was saved in Nizhny Novgorod.
On April 17, 2026, at 10:36 AM, Society Doctors at the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after Semashko provided assistance to a 29-year-old patient who had suffered three heart attacks. In one year, the young woman experienced two heart attacks. Standard treatment with stent placement was ineffective as the blood vessels quickly narrowed again. When the patient was admitted to the Nizhny Novgorod Clinical Hospital with her third heart attack, specialists suspected that the cause of the disease might be atypical. Examination revealed that it was not atherosclerosis but a rare disease—Takayasu arteritis, which is a systemic inflammation of the blood vessels. In such cases, conventional methods of treating heart attacks prove ineffective. To stabilize her condition, doctors applied targeted therapy using an interleukin-6 inhibitor. This helped suppress the aggressive autoimmune inflammation. As a result, the thickness of the vascular walls decreased from a critical 7.5 mm to a normal 4.3 mm, and the risk of recurrent vascular complications was significantly reduced. After treatment, the patient was discharged and is currently under the supervision of rheumatologists. Earlier, it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod doctors saved a patient with 100% lung damage.
