Pension in May 2026: who will receive an increase

      According to Ryazansky, some pensioners will receive payments by May 9. "This relates to war participants, veterans of combat operations, and those categories of people who are retired and have held weapons," he clarified.

      The amount of payments varies, but specifically, war veterans and combat participants will receive approximately 10,000 rubles each. "As for other categories of veterans, there may be payments for labor veterans, those who relate to this category," the expert added.

      In addition, indexation will affect social pensions. This is a significant category of citizens, including disabled individuals from childhood, children with disabilities who have lost their breadwinner, as well as those who have not earned an insurance pension. The pension amounts in this category range from 16,500 to 25,000 rubles. As of April 1, social pensions were increased by approximately 1,000 rubles.

      Additional payments are also provided for civil aviation and coal industry workers. These payments are related to additional contributions from employers that cover the harmfulness of working conditions. The pension of such workers consists of an insurance part and an additional payment for work experience in harmful conditions. The amount of additional payments is individual and depends on experience and salary.

      Changes in the pension system

      As of January 1, 2026, insurance pensions were indexed by 7.6%, and as of February 1, social payments were also increased. This applies to those who receive various social supplements, including monthly payments, awards, and titles.

      The average pension at the end of 2025 is 20,000 to 25,000 rubles. Ryazansky mentioned that there are pensioners who receive 50,000 and 40,000 rubles, while others are at the level of the subsistence minimum. The average social pension ranges from 16,500 to 25,500 rubles.

      A significant increase in May will be the payments for pensioners who turn 80 years old: the federal supplement to the insurance pension will be about 10,000 rubles.

      All payments are credited automatically, and no documents are required for this. However, if problems arise and you do not receive the payment, it is necessary to take the initiative and seek clarification.

      What the payment amount depends on

      The amount of payments depends on the contributions made at additional rates, which are received by the Social Fund from employers. If they were not paid on time, penalties are accrued, which the social fund is obliged to account for. Those who deliberately evade payment of contributions may be subjected to penalties, emphasized Ryazansky.

      All these funds are collected in the "piggy bank" of the Social Fund of Russia, after which quarterly additional payments to pensions are made.
