A ten-story building will be partially demolished due to karst threat in Dzerzhinsk.

On April 16, 2026, at 17:21, Society In Dzerzhinsk, a ten-story building No. 28 B on Popova Street will be partially demolished. The reason is karst processes recorded under the building, reports Gipernn.ru citing the city administration. Overall, the technical condition of the building is assessed as limited-operational. However, the structures require additional reinforcement. Residents noticed the first alarming signs about seven years ago. At that time, a pit formed at the foundation of the building, presumably related to karst voids. The sinkhole was filled with hundreds of cubic meters of sand, but later the management company acknowledged that it could not resolve the issue on its own. In 2023, a state of increased readiness was introduced within the building. Residents of the first entrance were evacuated and temporarily accommodated in a children's camp. Earlier, the Capital Repair Fund of the Nizhny Novgorod region announced plans for the complete relocation of the building. However, now only part of the building will be demolished, and the remaining structures will be reinforced. Residents will have to leave their apartments only during the work period. Currently, the city administration is collecting commercial proposals for the design and execution of work on reinforcing the structures. Timelines will be determined after the project preparation. It was previously reported that a two-story century-old house will be demolished in Sormovo. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
