Among the leaders are refinancing previously taken loans (20%), purchasing a car, and paying for medical services (9% each). Rounding out the top five are expenses for vacations (5%). Men more often take loans for renovation, construction, and car purchases. Women, on the contrary, are more focused on health and leisure – they take out loans for medical services and vacations 1.5 times more often than men. At the same time, family clients take out loans twice as often as single clients. Residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg more frequently reduce their financial burden thanks to refinancing programs – the share of such loans here reaches 24%, which is 4 percentage points higher than the average in Russia. In the regions, the share of loans for purchasing a car is 12%, which is 3 percentage points higher than the national average. "This year we are seeing a recovery in demand for cash loans against the backdrop of the easing of the monetary policy of the Bank of Russia and a consistent decrease in rates. At the same time, borrowers are demonstrating a more conscious approach: consumer lending is becoming a tool for long-term investments – in housing, transport, and health. An additional driver is refinancing, which allows clients to optimize their debt burden and redistribute the freed-up funds for new goals," commented Alexey Okhorzin, Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Business Products Department at VTB.
