April 14, 2026 20:00 Society A meeting of the permanent commission on ecology was held in the Duma of Nizhny Novgorod, chaired by Irina Molkova. One of the key issues was the report on the work of the MAUK "Park Switzerland." As reported by the director of the institution, Oleg Shuvalov, the landscaped area of the park covers 52 hectares. There are 18 kilometers of paths, 14 children's playgrounds, and 11 sports grounds, two dog walking areas, as well as seven public pavilions and two light and music fountains. The territory features 1,740 small architectural forms, and the fence, which is 3.2 kilometers long, has the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance. During the reconstruction and subsequent maintenance, about 100,000 green plantings were made, including more than 33,000 trees and shrubs. In 2025 alone, sanitary treatment was carried out on 74 plants, and approximately 1,500 new trees, shrubs, and perennials were planted. Last year, the park was visited by more than 3.5 million people. Among the most notable events were the jazz festival "Autumn in Switzerland. Jazz of Victory," the brass band festival "March of Victory," and the city street theater festival. The ice rink received over 47,000 visitors during the season. The chairman of the city Duma, Evgeny Chintsov, noted that "Park Switzerland" has set a very high standard of comfort for guests. The area remains well-maintained and convenient for relaxation, communication, creativity, and sports activities. He also added that it is important to have a team that "takes care of the largest and oldest city park." Special attention is given to environmental education. In the "Ecotorium" space, 263 events were held over the year, with about 4,800 participants. The programs "Young Entomologist" and "Eco Media School" reached more than 2,500 visitors, and over a thousand children participated in the eco-laboratory. As noted at the meeting, after the reconstruction, the park has become one of the central venues for environmental events in the city. It is emphasized that the institution's team organizes thematic activities year-round, aimed at visitors of all ages. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
