According to him, over the past year, alcohol consumption in the region has decreased by 14.6%. On average, across Russia, the figure has decreased by 5%. In December 2025, Nizhny Novgorod region fell below the average Russian level of alcohol consumption for the first time. Currently, in the country, there are 7.97 liters of alcohol per person, while in the region, it is 7.84 liters. This is evidenced by data from Rosstat (EMIS). At the same time, the governor emphasized that no additional restrictions on the sale of alcohol have been introduced in the region. "What kind of restrictions can there be? Time restrictions on sales? A person will buy it anyway if they need it," said Nikitin. The head of the region also reported that, according to information from chain stores, some alcohol is being bought up for subsequent resale with a markup of 30-40%. "The margin goes to some speculators, and they profit from this," noted Gleb Nikitin. It is worth recalling that over the year, more than 900 violations in alcohol sales were identified in the region. It was also reported that 550 Nizhny Novgorod stores have stopped selling vapes.
