The court denied the request for further investigation into the train crash in Nizhny Novgorod.
On April 7, 2026, at 10:31, Incidents The Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region did not support the lawsuit of the transport prosecutor's office against the Federal Transport Oversight Service regarding the conduct of an additional investigation into the causes of the freight train derailment in Nizhny Novgorod. Information about this has been posted in the arbitration case registry. The incident occurred on the evening of October 19, 2023, at the Nizhny Novgorod-Sorting station. Around 21:20, during shunting operations, three cars derailed. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, and no damage to the railway infrastructure was recorded. On October 20, the cars were returned to the tracks with the help of a recovery train. A representative of the transport prosecutor's office went to the scene. The Federal Transport Oversight Service indicated violations during loading as one of the possible causes of the derailment. According to the agency, the products of the company "Russol," one of the largest salt producers in Russia, may have been loaded improperly: it is presumed that halite got wet, fell onto the wheels, and affected the operation of the train's braking system. "Russol" disagreed with these conclusions and appealed to the court, challenging the position of the supervisory authority. For its part, the transport prosecutor's office stated that the actions taken by the Federal Transport Oversight Service were insufficient and insisted on an additional investigation into the circumstances of the accident. It was previously reported that a train passing through Nizhny Novgorod was delayed for 4 hours due to a breakdown in the Vladimir region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
