The city commission for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations, chaired by the first deputy head of Dzerzhinsk, Gleb Andreev, summarized the preparations for the spring rise in water levels. The meeting was attended by the leadership of the city administration for civil defense and emergency situations, as well as specialists from the Integrated Laboratory for Environmental Pollution Monitoring. The commission stated that the current hydrological situation is stable, and there are no threats of flooding in populated areas and industrial zones. "We are keeping the situation fully under control and have the necessary resources to work under any scenario. The city has 11 specialized vehicles and 17 motor pumps on standby. Utility services continue to clear storm drains to ensure that collectors can accept meltwater without obstruction," noted Gleb Andreev. Meteorologists' forecasts confirm a calm scenario for the development of events. The head of the Integrated Monitoring Laboratory, Svetlana Matveeva, explained that the heavy snowfall did not lead to a critical rise in water levels: "The winter has been consistently frosty: there were no thaw days at all. In January, 244% of the monthly precipitation norm fell, in February - 249%, however, March turned out to be dry - only 30% of the climatic norm. Ice drift on the Oka River began on March 29, which fully corresponds to the average long-term indicators. The last time the water approached a critical level was in 1994, when the mark reached 74.5 meters. Today, we do not observe such risks," reported Svetlana Matveeva. To ensure the safety of residents, city services have been conducting regular patrols on the waters of the Oka River, Lake Svyatoe, and the Vyunitsa River bed since the beginning of March. GIMS inspectors conduct explanatory talks about the rules of behavior on ice and during the flood period. Currently, patrols are working from the shore, and with the opening of navigation, two patrol boats will join the monitoring. All hydraulic structures that provide protection for urban areas have undergone technical inspection and are in good condition. After the flood period, the municipality will launch a planned cleaning and disinfection of wells and other sources of decentralized water supply. Homeowners are advised to independently treat cesspools, adjacent territories, and individual wells with disinfecting solutions.
