      The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, has proposed the creation of a consulting system for future fathers. The head of the region emphasized that a man should play an active role in the family, demonstrating responsibility and care. According to Nikitin, the full development of a family is impossible without the father's involvement, and it is in such conditions that a healthy model of relationships for children is formed. "I urge men to be protectors of their women, not infantile egoists. A real man is ready to take on responsibility and show care," Nikitin wrote on his MAX channel. He added that the authorities intend to work on options for psychological and social support for future dads. The topic was discussed at a meeting on increasing birth rates, which took place last week with the participation of doctors, psychologists, public figures, and representatives of the clergy. During the meeting, it was noted that the number of abortions at the request of women in state medical institutions has decreased to just over 1,500 cases. This is a third less than the figure for 2024 and almost five times lower than the level a decade ago. At the same time, the governor described the situation in the country as complicated and stated that the existing reduction is insufficient. "Yes, these are our small victories, but it is not enough. The country is in a critical situation, and allowing abortions at will is too great a luxury," he noted, emphasizing that the number of abortions needs to be reduced not through prohibitions but through support and responsible attitudes. Nikitin also stated that private clinics providing such services must ensure comprehensive assistance to women, including psychological, social, and legal support. In the absence of readiness to comply with such requirements, private medical institutions may lose the right to perform abortion procedures. According to the Nizhny Novgorod governor, abortions should be performed for medical reasons, and in other cases, they should be considered on an individual basis. It is worth noting that from July 2025 to February 2026, the total fertility rate in the region increased from 1.267 to 1.303.
