Evgeny Lyulin is convinced that for the residents of Nizhny Novgorod, there is no country closer than Belarus.
April 2, 2026 10:43 Politics "Today marks the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus. This holiday of the two brotherly nations was established exactly 30 years ago, but it has truly resonated only now. It is true what they say: to be stronger, we need adversity. And so it has turned out. 'Thank you' to the West – for literally pushing us and the Belarusians into each other's arms. During every visit to the Republic of Belarus, I hear this from our friends. Without looking back and not counting on Western handouts, we are now together making cars, electric buses, trams. We are building schools. We are exchanging goods and technologies. We are creating a unified legislative framework for the Union State," wrote the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, on his MAX channel. "The Speaker of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, cites the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region as an example for the rest of the country – we were the first to conclude partnership agreements with the councils of deputies from all regions of Belarus. We are adopting the experience of supporting rural areas, youth, and developing municipalities. Together with the Grodno region, we are holding Congresses of Small Towns – our forums of people's diplomacy: this year we are expecting dear guests in Arzamas and Diveevo," emphasized the speaker of the regional parliament. "2026 has been declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. But, putting my hand on my heart, I want to add – 'and brotherly Belarus.' Because there is no country closer to the people of Nizhny Novgorod than Belarus. Happy holiday, friends! We will overcome everything and become stronger for the benefit of our peoples!" concluded Evgeny Lyulin. Let us remind you that the governor of Nizhny Novgorod, Gleb Nikitin, congratulated the Belarusians on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus and noted that the cooperation between the parties represents a "chronicle of sincere partnership."
