Direct flights to China may be launched from Nizhny Novgorod.

      On April 3, 2026, at 09:52, Society Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov proposed to launch air communication between Nizhny Novgorod and China. He announced his proposal on April 2 at the XXI International Exhibition-Forum of Hospitality Regions "Intourmarket" (12+), which opened at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. According to the minister, the Nizhny Novgorod region is actively entering international tourist markets. Direct flights to Belgrade (Serbia) will start on May 19. Reshetnikov also suggested working on the organization of direct flights from China and including Nizhny Novgorod in a joint program with Moscow for promotion within the national brand Discover Russia. It should be noted that starting from September 15, 2025, the PRC has temporarily canceled visas for Russians for up to 30 days. It was previously reported that Nizhny Novgorod is planning to resume air communication with Belarus.
