644 million rubles are being demanded from the waste landfill in Nizhny Novgorod for environmental damage.

      April 2, 2026 12:35 Economy A legal dispute has unfolded in Nizhny Novgorod regarding the solid municipal waste landfill. The company "MAG Group" is being asked to pay an additional 644 million rubles for its negative impact on the environment. The initiator of the claims is the interregional office of Rosprirodnadzor. As reported by "Ъ-Privolzhye," the company is trying to contest the charged amount in court. The basis for the claims was the discharges from the MAG-1 landfill. In 2024, leachate was directed into the sewage system to free up the storage pond. The supervisory authority classified these discharges as waste rather than wastewater and imposed a fee with penalties. As a result, the total claims amount turned out to be twice the total environmental payments of all enterprises in the region for the previous year. At the same time, during the court proceedings, the representative of Rosprirodnadzor was unable to provide a detailed justification for the claims made. Nevertheless, the agency announced its intention to file a counterclaim to recover funds. Similar claims have been made against other landfills in the region.
