Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded that bank cashback is not subject to taxes.

      On March 31, 2026, at 18:20, the Federal Tax Service of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region clarified that funds or bonuses received under bank loyalty programs are not considered taxable income and are not subject to personal income tax (PIT).

      However, there are situations where cashback may be subject to PIT:

      - If it is received outside the framework of a public offer.

      - If it is part of an employment relationship.

      - If it serves as payment for services, work, or the supply of goods.

      Income from banks in the form of interest on deposits (account balances) is subject to PIT. Tax authorities calculate the tax based on data provided by banks.

      This data can be found in the taxpayer's personal account in the "Income Information" section – "Interest on Deposits." The information is provided as a total amount of interest on all deposits for the year. A breakdown by individual deposits or accounts is not provided.

      If the data does not match the taxpayer's information, it is necessary to contact the bank for clarification.

      The tax on interest from deposits is calculated by tax authorities based on data from banks and is included in the tax notification. It is important to note that the tax on income in the form of interest on deposits for the year 2025 has not yet been calculated.

      As emphasized by the agency, the information that bank cashbacks have begun to be subject to PIT is not true. If there are questions about the income accrued by the bank, it is recommended to contact the credit organization.

      Let us remind you that residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region can submit a tax return in the form 3-PIT for income received in 2025 without visiting the tax authority offices. The deadline for submitting the declaration is April 30, 2026.
