Land plots for SVO fighters may be replaced with payments in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      March 31, 2026 13:38 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the possibility of introducing monetary compensation instead of providing land plots to participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) is being studied. This was reported by Vasily Sukhanov during an online conference of the IA "NTA-Privolzhye." From October 2023 to February 2026, about 3,700 applications were received from SMO participants and their family members for land allocation. To date, more than 850 applicants have already received plots, while approximately 2,300 people continue to wait for their turn. Sukhanov reminded that in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated June 6, 2023, on additional measures to support military personnel and their families, changes were made to the regional law in September 2023. These amendments established the procedure for the free provision of land to SMO participants for personal subsidiary farming. In November 2024, another regulatory act was adopted. From November 1 of the same year, it introduced a mechanism for land certificates for citizens who signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense in the region to participate in the SMO. Currently, the authorities are assessing the feasibility of an alternative support measure – providing monetary payments instead of land plots. As of the end of February 2026, the total need for land plots in the region is estimated at approximately 13,300. Of these, about 2,300 are intended for award-winning SMO participants and their families, while nearly 11,000 are for holders of land certificates.
