      March 28, 2026 16:42 Sports The holding of test matches at the new ice arena in Nizhny Novgorod is planned for September 2026, said Maxim Gafurov, the general director of the Center for Management and Development of Sports in the region. Recently, the nearly completed sports facility at Strelka was visited by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and KHL President Alexey Morozov. The latter highly praised the quality of the future home arena of HC "Torpedo." Its capacity is twice that of the KRK "Nagorny," where the "torpedovtsy" currently play (12,000 spectators compared to 5,500). Construction is in the final stages. Only the necessary documents need to be finalized. "We plan to announce test matches starting in September and already conduct the season," Maxim Gafurov stated in an interview with "Match TV." According to Deputy Governor Oleg Berkovich, the opening ceremony will be broadcast nationwide, so plans are in place to organize a show or concert.
