The reason for this is the abnormal amount of snow that fell this winter, reports IA "Vremya N" citing the regional government's office. Specialists regularly assess the condition of the structure. Based on the monitoring results, a decision will be made regarding further measures necessary to maintain the structure in proper condition. Furthermore, back in November 2025, the technical condition of the Chkalov Stairs arch was placed under special control. The reason was heavy trucks passing underneath and hitting the arch with the upper part of their bodies. As a result of such collisions, the integrity of the plaster layer was damaged. This led to moisture penetrating the resulting defects. It was also reported that traffic on the Zeleny Exit in Nizhny Novgorod remains closed. There is a risk of a repeat landslide.
