The State Duma introduced criminal liability for denying the genocide of the Soviet people.
March 24, 2026 18:26 Politics The State Duma has adopted a law providing for criminal liability for denying and justifying the genocide of the Soviet people. This was reported by 360.ru. According to the new regulations, such actions are punishable by imprisonment for up to 3 years. In the case of desecration of monuments and burial sites of genocide victims, the punishment may be increased to 5 years of imprisonment. The law was adopted in the second and third readings and applies not only to the territory of Russia but also to monuments located outside its borders. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that more than 13 million people, including women, the elderly, and children, fell victim to the German-Fascist occupation. He also noted that courts in 33 regions of Russia have already recognized the crimes of the Nazis as genocide against the Soviet people. Volodin expressed confidence that the new law would become an important tool for protecting historical memory and countering attempts to rehabilitate Nazism. It should be noted that a criminal case for the rehabilitation of Nazism was initiated in Pavlov after an attack on a teenager with a St. George ribbon. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
