Payments after 18 years: what is due to the children of the deceased Nizhny Novgorod residents in the special military operation
March 25, 2026 07:17 Economy Member of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Marina Shakirova told NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" about the financial support measures available for adopted children of deceased participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) once they turn 18. According to her, adopted children have the same rights as biological ones. If the child was a minor at the time of the father's death, they would automatically receive their share of payments alongside other children, the spouse, and the parents of the deceased. If the child is already 18 years old, the key factor is the fact of full-time education. In cases where the child was studying in a technical school or university full-time at the time of the father's death, they are recognized as a member of the deceased's family. This grants them the right to receive the corresponding payments. This refers to the share of one-time payments provided in the event of a serviceman's death. These include the federal insurance payment under the decree of the President of the Russian Federation and regional payments from the Nizhny Novgorod region. In total, their amount is about 16 million rubles. If the conditions are met, a full-time student may claim a portion of this amount. Additionally, while studying full-time, the right to a survivor's pension and monthly federal assistance is retained. These payments are granted until the completion of studies, but no longer than until the age of 23. After this age, the right to monthly support ceases. "The only payment that all children can claim regardless of age is the payment for the medal or order that the father was awarded posthumously. It is divided among all family members, including adult children," emphasized Marina Shakirova. It was previously reported that 47 billion rubles were allocated for SMO support in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
