The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that scammers are using smart speakers for eavesdropping.

March 23, 2026 12:22 Society In Russia, criminals have begun to actively use smart speakers and voice assistants to spy on users. This was reported by cyber police specialists, as conveyed by 360.ru. Experts from Kaspersky warn that ordinary users may remain unaware for a long time that their speakers are being listened to. However, there are signs that may indicate a device has been hacked. Among the main signs of hacking: - the speaker activates by itself, without user command; the speaker executes commands that the user did not give; - unknown devices or actions that were not performed by the user appear in the account settings. If you suspect that your speaker has been hacked, it is recommended to immediately take the following steps: - disconnect the speaker from the power and the internet; - change the password in the linked account to a more complex one; - check the list of connected devices and remove any suspicious ones; - update the speaker's firmware to the latest version. Hacking a smart speaker can lead to the leakage of confidential information - passwords and other personal data that criminals can use for various attacks. Therefore, it is important to timely detect and eliminate signs of hacking. Earlier, it was reported that fraudsters began using recordings from answering machines to create deepfakes.
