Nizhny Novgorod residents choose active recreation instead of bars on weekends.
March 20, 2026 15:00 Society Residents of Nizhny Novgorod are increasingly rejecting the usual leisure activities in bars and nightclubs, opting for healthier ways to recover. According to data from analysts at the SOK network of service offices, which they shared with the website pravda-nn.ru, working city dwellers are more often coping with stress and fatigue through sports, spa treatments, and massage. A survey showed that almost half of Nizhny Novgorod residents have been visiting bars and clubs less frequently over the past year. At the same time, one in five respondents has reduced their alcohol consumption on weekends. Active leisure is becoming increasingly popular: 28% of office workers spend their weekends engaging in sports, while another 20% choose spa and massage. However, planning leisure time remains a challenging task for many. More than a third of respondents admitted that they find it difficult to organize their weekends. Among the reasons, they cite financial constraints, the need to coordinate plans with family, and the desire to accomplish "everything at once." Most respondents try to stick to a moderate budget. Thus, 44% are willing to spend between 1,500 and 3,000 rubles on leisure over the weekend, while another 30% are willing to spend between 3,000 and 5,000 rubles. Nineteen percent of respondents are ready to allocate up to 10,000 rubles, and about 6% are willing to spend up to 15,000 rubles for two days. Despite attempts to relax, anxiety before the start of the workweek remains common. Seventy-one percent of office workers experience "Monday fear." It is most often associated with disrupted sleep patterns, the upcoming workload, unresolved personal issues, and lack of rest. Additionally, one in six survey participants noted that they cannot fully disconnect from work tasks even on weekends. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
