Veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Nizhny Novgorod resident Vasily Yakovlevich Kuritsyn celebrates his official hundredth anniversary on January 22. Today, the veteran was visited by activists of the "Volunteers of Victory" movement to convey congratulations and words of sincere gratitude. "It is you who are our future, our hope. It is important to remember and pass on the history of the heroism of the Soviet people to the next generations, so that we can be proud of our country. Thank you for your attention and care!" the jubilarian thanked and delighted the guests with performances of his favorite folk songs on the accordion. Vasily Yakovlevich Kuritsyn was born on January 22, 1926 (this date is officially indicated in his passport) in the village of Turtapka, Nizhny Novgorod region. After school, he worked on a collective farm, then joined the army. During the war, the rifle regiment in which he served passed through Hungary, Romania, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He met Victory in the Czech town of Pelhrzimov. After completing his military career, he headed the House of Culture in Gorodets and actively participated in the life of the district, in the patriotic education of youth. Vasily Yakovlevich has been awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree (1985), the Order of Glory III degree (1945), the medals "For Military Merit" (1954), "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945," and jubilee medals. The veteran has been awarded the titles of "Honorary Citizen of the Gorodets Municipal District" and "Honored Veteran of the Nizhny Novgorod Region." Last year, the veteran was presented with a commemorative medal and diploma "Honorary Citizen of the Nizhny Novgorod Region." In May, he attended the anniversary Victory Parade in Moscow. "Today we honor a person whose life has become an example of courage, service to the Motherland, and selfless labor. Vasily Yakovlevich dedicated his life to the defense of the Fatherland, the development of culture, and the education of the younger generation. We are proud to congratulate him on his hundredth birthday! The name of this person will forever remain in the history of our region, inspiring us to strive for goodness, justice, and honor," noted Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Public Organization "Volunteers of Victory."
