Follow fire safety rules at home.
According to statistics, the majority of household fires occur due to people's negligent attitude towards fire safety rules and regulations. The Department for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the municipal district appeals to residents and guests to comply with fire safety rules and provides a number of recommendations, the implementation of which will help you protect yourself, your loved ones, and your home from fires.
TO AVOID FIRE:
1. EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN USING OPEN FLAMES:
- Do not leave children alone and do not allow them to play with matches, lighters, sparklers, etc.;
- Do not allow children and individuals unfamiliar with the operation of gas appliances to turn them on and use them;
- Do not leave working kerosene lamps unattended, especially if there are young children in the family;
- Do not heat flammable mastics for linoleum, paints, etc., on gas and other heating appliances;
- Do not smoke in bed, in sheds, attics, garages, and places where it is not permitted. Use large ashtrays designed only for cigarette butts. Before emptying the ashtray, ensure there are no smoldering butts in it. Do not throw unextinguished cigarettes on the ground;
- Do not use open flames after consuming alcoholic beverages;
- Do not use kerosene lamps, candles, or matches in attics, storerooms, and sheds;
- Do not pour water on burning oil in a frying pan. It should be covered with a lid. The flame will go out.
2. OBSERVE THE RULES FOR USING STOVES:
Three fires due to faulty stove heating and violations of fire safety rules occurred overnight from January 17 to 18 in the Nizhny Novgorod region, reports the press service of the regional EMERCOM of Russia. In the village of Koverkino, a 53-year-old woman died in a fire in an uninhabited house covering an area of 204 square meters. In Kstovo, a trailer caught fire, and in Vorsma, the interior finishing of a residential house burned over an area of 10 square meters.
A total of 15 units of equipment and 39 firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the fires.
- Throughout the heating season, monitor the draft in the chimney;
- All stoves must have fireproof separation of the flue pipe at the junction with combustible structures, as well as a clearance from the brick stove to wooden structures;
- The stove must have a functioning door and a fireproof sheet;
- Timely whitewash and repair cracks in the masonry of stoves and chimneys;
- Dispose of hot coals, slag, or ash in specially designated safe places. Douse the ashes removed from the stoves with water;
- Do not leave burning stoves unattended, and do not entrust their supervision to young children;
- Do not use gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, and other flammable and easily ignitable liquids to ignite stoves;
- Do not place shavings, chips, or firewood for drying on the stove and fireproof sheet;
- Do not dry laundry over a burning stove;
- Do not use firewood that exceeds the size of the stove's firebox;
- Do not use ventilation ducts as chimneys;
- Do not overheat the stoves.
3. OBSERVE THE RULES FOR USING GAS APPLIANCES:
- If you smell gas, immediately turn off the gas appliance;
- Detecting the location of a gas leak should only be done using a soapy solution (foam). To avoid an explosion, it is strictly prohibited to use open flames (matches, lighters, etc.) for this purpose;
- If a gas leak occurs from an open tap on a gas appliance, it should be closed, the room should be thoroughly ventilated, and only after that can a flame be ignited;
- Self-repair of gas stoves and gas supply pipes is not allowed;
- Do not turn the knobs of taps with pliers, tongs, or keys, and do not strike the taps or burners with hard objects.
4. MONITOR THE CONDITION OF ELECTRICAL WIRING AND HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES:
- Do not allow wiring to be laid in single insulation over combustible bases. Do not cover electrical wiring with wallpaper, carpets, or use paper lampshades;
- Install calibrated fuses in the electric meter, do not allow "twists" of electrical wires;
- Do not connect multiple electrical devices (lamp, iron, kettle, etc.) to the electrical network simultaneously using a splitter, as this may overload the wiring and cause a short circuit;
- Do not use homemade (craft) electric heating appliances.
If you notice that plugs, sockets, or electrical wires become very hot during the operation of household appliances, there is sparking and crackling sounds in the sockets, the smell of burning rubber or plastic, or there are traces of soot on the sockets and plugs, this means that the electrical wiring is faulty. Urgent measures must be taken to replace it. Remember that any electrical appliances under voltage should not be extinguished with water. In case of fire in electrical appliances, first unplug the appliance from the socket if it is not possible to completely de-energize the apartment.
5. ON THE TERRITORIES ADJACENT TO RESIDENTIAL HOUSES:
- Do not carry out unauthorized (without approval) construction, including on garden plots;
- Do not use fire safety distances between buildings for storing materials or vehicles;
- Timely clear areas adjacent to buildings of combustible waste, etc.;
- Do not block doors and emergency exits.
