Over 450 tons of tires were recycled in Nizhny Novgorod in a year.

December 4, 2025 08:00 Society In 2025, more than 450 tons of used car tires were sent for recycling in Nizhny Novgorod. This figure exceeded last year's results, reported the city's Department of Urban Development. The project for collecting used tires has been implemented for the fifth consecutive year. Its main goal is to organize centralized collection and recycling of worn-out tires. The initiative is overseen by the city administration in collaboration with the "Mega" shopping center. Anyone can participate: residents of Nizhny Novgorod bring unwanted tires to a special site, from where they are sent to a recycling facility. The recycled material is then used, among other things, for creating surfaces for sports fields. As noted by the first deputy director of the Department of Urban Development, Alexey Krasnov, such a partnership between business and the municipality opens up serious opportunities. Environmental challenges require a comprehensive approach, and tangible results can only be achieved by combining efforts. He also reminded that tire collection will continue until December 31. Old tires pose a potential threat to the environment, and such projects based on the principles of sustainable consumption help reduce the risks of negative impact. The Department of Urban Development reminded that the campaign is held annually, and new measures to increase the environmental literacy of the population are being developed at the request of Mayor Yuri Shalabaev. All tires collected as part of the campaign will be transferred to a specialized enterprise, where they will be recycled into rubber crumb. Subsequently, this environmentally safe raw material will be used to create surfaces for children's and sports grounds in Nizhny Novgorod, said the department director Elena Pegova. It was previously reported that recycling points will continue to operate in Nizhny Novgorod with the support of regional authorities. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
