During the New Year holidays from December 31, 2025 to January 11, 2026, residents of Nizhny Novgorod actively spent their time watching films and TV series, reading books and listening to music. This is evidenced by a joint study by MTS and analysts from the ON Media media holding.
Experts analyzed the leisure preferences of Nizhny Novgorod residents and found which cultural formats were most in demand among audiences during the winter break.
Films and TV series
A significant part of holiday leisure in Nizhny Novgorod was devoted to watching content on the online platform "KION". The most popular genres were family-oriented — animated films, comedies and entertainment shows.
Among Russian films and series the leaders were "Alice in Wonderland", "The Mad Empress", "Sergiy Against the Unclean", "Zheka Russel" and "The Family Man". Foreign hits included cult classics and contemporary projects: "Home Alone", "Dracula", "Ladybug and Super-Cat", "The Long Walk" and "Tom and Jerry".
On television during the holidays, New Year films, concerts and entertainment programs traditionally predominated. The broadcasts that attracted the largest audiences were on Channel One, Russia-1, TNT and REN TV.
Books
On the "KION Stroki" service, Nizhny Novgorod residents most often chose works in the genres of fantasy, science fiction, romance and detective fiction. The top popular books included Mikhail Mikheev's "Space Quest", Andrey Vasiliev's "Fayroll. Book 7. Different Sides", Prince Felix Yusupov's "Before the Exile", Fyodor Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov" and Yana Wagner's "The Tunnel".
Music
Musical preferences of Nizhny Novgorod residents during the holidays were centered on pop, rap and dance tracks. Among the most listened-to compositions on the "KION Music" platform were: Betsy, Ded M — "On New Year's Eve", Sabi, MIA BOYKA — "Basic Minimum", as well as the joint hit "Hoodie" by Dzhigan, ARTIK & ASTI and NILETTO.
According to Andrey Belov, director of MTS for the Nizhny Novgorod region, the audience's holiday behavior demonstrates a mature and diverse taste.
"Nizhny Novgorod holidays are a mix of cozy home viewing, intellectual reading and energetic music. It is especially noteworthy that regional preferences reflect all-Russian trends, but with local color: for example, increased interest in historical memoirs and domestic fantasy. This speaks to the audience's mature taste and its readiness for multi-format leisure," he noted.
