      More than 1,000 schoolchildren from Nizhny Novgorod and Sukhumi took part in digital excursions as part of the "Virtual Guide: Bridge of Friendship: Nizhny Novgorod — Sukhumi" project. This was reported by the Department of Tourism Development and External Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod city administration.

      According to the city department, more than 30 open lessons using VR technologies were held in Nizhny Novgorod and the capital of Abkhazia, Sukhumi.

      "A distinctive feature of the project was the use of VR headsets, which made it possible, in a fully immersive format, to stroll through the streets of the two cities in the company of digital guides — the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and the founder of Abkhaz literature Dmitry Gulia. Each lesson included a quiz, which made getting acquainted with history and culture even more engaging and fruitful," the project organizers said, noting that during the project held in 2025, more than 1,000 schoolchildren from Nizhny Novgorod and Sukhumi took virtual walks through the twin cities.

      According to department specialists, the classes in Nizhny Novgorod were attended by honored guests: Honorary Consul of the Republic of Abkhazia Vladimir Litvinchuk, consul’s adviser Ilya Litvinchuk, head of the Sormovsky District administration Svetlana Gorbunova, and chairman of a commission of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma Sergey Plyaskin.

      Earlier, by decision of the city head Yuri Shalabaev, immersive education using virtual reality technologies was introduced in all schools of Nizhny Novgorod.

      In addition, recall that in October 2024, after 13 years of joint work on school exchange programs, sports competitions, patriotic and cultural events, Nizhny Novgorod and the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia signed an agreement on the development of sister-city relations.
